07.2020 Expedition: Something in the North

Here is an announcement for an Expedition, without any content. Why? Because the destination is still super secret. But I can tell you one thing: it will be somewhere in the North, in July 2020, 6 days and it will be in a place where no horse photographer has been before. Sounds good? Sign up for my Explorer Report to get the details in given time.

Details to this tour will be published mid April 2020, recipients of the Explorer Report will be informed first.

Expedition date: Mid July 2020 – 6 days

Equipment: We will have mainly staged photo sessions with portraits, herds and free roaming horses sessions. You can’t do nothing wrong with your standard 70-200 mm Iens, but I strongly encourage you to step out of your comfort zone and take the opportunity to try out new lenses. To include landscapes, a 35 mm is a good choice, and to be more flexible a 24-105 mm or similar zoom is a great alternative. For wildlife shots and free horses I recommend 100-400 mm lenses or even more tele zoom. Think about a rain cover for your tack.

Outfit: As always I recommend something for the rain, something for the sun, and something for the wind.

Fitness: Tours including hiking require a basic level of fitness or at least you should be determined to reach the destination (at your pace 😉 ). I’m also a slow hiker compared to the mountain folk, but I have a strong will to grow beyond my limits. (the photos will be worth it and after a few days you will forget the pain). On flat plains, beach sessions or big pastures you still need to walk a lot to reach the destination.

Weather: We will take pictures in any weather, except in thunder storms or unbearable weather. Weather in the mountains close by the sea can be extreme and slightly unpredictable, but safety is more important than being struck by lightning for a horse photo. Worst case, the sessions on exposed areas must be cancelled or switched.

Social: The Expedition is very intense and we will spend much time together. For this reason I reserve the right to pick the best candidate for a tour, to ensure we will get along well. My two dogs travel with us and it is important that you are not afraid nor allergic of dogs.

Language: I will speak English, German or French depending on the group requirements.

Invest: prices will be communicated soon. Join the waiting list.

Equine Photo Expeditions are intense, adventurous and absolutely unique. This is the photo tour of a lifetime you won’t regret.

Adventure is calling and we must go

Three tours are planned for 2020: Alps Tour in August and Hebridean Tour in September. Something Nordic in July (secret until mid April)

Your photographic adventure of a lifetime is calling you to join this unique trip. I have explored the best locations during my travels to take photos: from the highest glacier valley, to dramatic mountain sceneries, perfect beaches, free roaming horses and beautiful stallions — each session is a highlight and many locations will literally blow your mind and will make your flash drives glow hot. During the 6 to 10 day Expedition we will visit my favourite places and discover their horses in a small and diverse group, so the adventurers can inspire each other, exchange knowledge and share experiences.

The Equine Photo Expeditions are open to talented international photographers or videographers, who are tough enough to hike up a mountain before sunrise, can adapt to new sceneries and locations and don’t expect a wellness or luxury holiday.

  • 6-10 days tours with photo sessions
  • Staged portrait sessions
  • Free roaming horses
  • Unique locations & scenery
  • Native horse breeds

Upcoming Expeditions

Check out my Expeditions for the upcoming year. Don't miss to sign up, they will not be repeated and spots are limited.

Exciting and intense

During the past years I have made many contacts to amazing horses and people in different parts of Europe. For my unique Expeditions, I will put together one highlight after another. Our horse models will be mostly local horse breeds with a special focus on rare and endangered breeds. Each Expedition in unique and I don't plan to repeat them in the following years.

Think outside the box

The Equine Photo Expedition is not like a workshop. We don't have any theoretical classes, but focus on travelling, exploring and discovering new locations, amazing horses and the best scenery the place offers. But this doesn't exclude any learnings! We will share experiences and give each other insights in our workflow, by spending time with each other and work together. Before embarking the tour we will have a preparation call to get to know and clear things up. A harmonic and social group is crucial to a successful trip together as a group. I strongly encourage you to step out of your photographic comfort zone and experiment with new techniques, lenses and angles during the tour.

Arrival & Departure

We will meet in the arrivals location in the morning and be back on the last day in the evening. This way we will be able to use the full first and last day. Make sure to arrive one day earlier to the pick up location and maybe enjoy another couple of days after the trip in the area.

Drive & Sleep

We will spend much time in the car and change our location often enough. To be prepared for this epic road trip, you shouldn't have too large luggage or be able to pack and move it quickly enough. Our accommodations will be a variety of hotel, pension, cabin and whatever suits the travel plans best, so we can maximise our time with photography.

Eat & Time

Breakfast, snacks and a lunch bag are included, we will decide together where to eat in the evening. Please tell me if you have any food restrictions or are vegan. There will be mostly 2 sessions a day, but also some free time in between in case you need some alone time or quiet moments to reflect. Every participant has the right to have some me-time.

  • If you could choose one place where you spend these days of #stayathome — where would this be? My answer is I. The pictures!
With this I wish you a happy weekend, if weekends still matter to you. I personally don’t have any difference anymore, since I work everyday and stay at home everyday and don’t do anything else 🤷🏼‍♀️ such weird times.
  • I would like to show another photo from the photo shooting in @narodni_hrebcin , the Czech National Stud. For me it was one of the highlights of my last year, because on the one hand I am so fascinated by Kladruby horses, on the other hand of course I am also fascinated by old studs. I don't know which one blew me away more: the colour of the horse or the colour of the wall? I am still flashed!

Since all studs have a visiting ban at the moment, I thought I would take a virtual trip to the most beautiful studs I have visited lately? In the foreground are their horses, of course, but you can also see what's going on around them :) Let's go with the stallion Generalissimus Energia XLIX!
  • Na? Wie läuft es bei dir aktuell? Schränken dich die Coronaeinschränkungen stark ein? 🧐

  • QUIZ TIME part 6 - do you recognise this profile?! To which horse breed belongs this pictured stallion?
  • Hello Hello, are you home too? Then you'll probably want another issue of QUIZ TIME, part 5! So far many people have participated with very creative ideas, thank you very much!
We are looking for this pretty boy who is peeping through the window. Which breed is it?
The resolution will be in the comments tomorrow 😎
  • QUIZ TIME Part 4
Chestnut with light mane is a very popular colour for many of us. But I am not what you might think at first sight.
Which horse breed do I belong to?
